Gallipoli Oak

Martin Purdy

Thursday 22 November 2.00pm | Central Methodist Church

Martin Purdy will tell the story of the Lancashire Fusiliers from Todmorden, Rochdale and Middleton who fought and died in one of the most disastrous campaigns of the First World War. The Gallipoli Oak, which was co-authored with Ian Dawson, focuses on a single English oak tree planted after the war in memory of a young British soldier who was killed in the eight-month campaign.

Martin is an expert in the social and cultural impacts of the First World War and has worked as a freelance expert on the First World War for the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?
