Bestselling crime writer Val McDermid will talk about her crime fiction.

Val McDermid has sold over 15 million books worldwide and her novels have been translated into over 40 languages. She has published 27 novels and her latest psychological thriller Broken Ground, which is fifth in a series of books featuring DCI Karen Pirie, was published in August. She is perhaps best known for her Wire in the Blood series and has written three other series.


Val was born in Kirkcaldy and graduated in English at St Hilda’s College, Oxford. She has won many awards internationally, and in 2016, she received the Outstanding Contribution to Crime Fiction award at the Theakston’s Old Peculiar Harrogate Crime Festival.
