Something Dark tells the story of Lemn Sissay’s upbringing in care and the search for his family and true identity. The poet’s Ethiopian mother gave him up when he was two months old. He grew up in children’s homes and foster care and first discovered his real name at the age of 18. The award-winning play has been performed throughout the world to critical acclaim.
Celebrated performance poet Lemn Sissay is the author of five poetry collections. He was awarded an MBE for services to literature in 2010 and is chancellor of the University of Manchester. In 2017, he established his Foundation, dedicated to offering support to individuals and agencies working to address the disadvantages faced by those in care and young adult care leavers. Something Dark was published in Sept 2017.
